19/08/2011 - Fight Night Show Pulls No Punches
Aonghus Óg McAnally brings his award-winning one-man show Fight Night to Draíocht Blanchardstown on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 8.15pm for one night only as part of a nationwide tour. Tickets €15/12 conc are now on sale at www. draiocht.ie or phone Draíocht’s Box Office on 01-885 2622.
Written by Gavin Kostick and winner of both Best Actor and the Bewley's Little Gem Award at the Dublin Absolut Fringe Festival 2010, Fight Night is a gripping journey charting the comeback of Dan Coyle Jr, a failed amateur boxer from a long line of accomplished fighters.
Living in the twin shadows of his overbearing father and his brother’s Olympic success, Dan lets his training slip in favour of girls and booze. Then, an incident with his father minutes before a crucial bout splinters the family and exiles Dan from the ring. It’s not until the birth of his own son years later that his competitive fire is reignited, and he takes the first tentative steps on his road to redemption.
This fast-paced and engaging solo performance combines intense physicality with a classic Dublin wit in a storytelling experience that will leave audiences both exhausted and exhilarated. Fight Night is performed by Aonghus Og McAnally and directed by Bryan Burroughs.
Fight Night was developed as part of the 'Show in a Bag' initiative by Dublin Fringe Festival, Irish Theatre Institute and Fishamble:The New Play Company and will run in this year's Dublin Theatre Festival in October as part of ReViewed, the showcase of successful Irish productions restaged in partnership with Culture Ireland and the Irish Theatre Institute.
“McAnally and Kostick deliver a knockout blow … extraordinary … exhilarating and cathartic.” – The Irish Times
